Explore the Great Outdoors: Exciting Nature Camp for School Children Launches in Diphu!

DIPHU — A Nature Discovery for Kids

Recently, a two-day nature camp took place in Diphu, organized by the tourism NGO Jakve Asong. This event was designed for local school children and was supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

The purpose of the camp, according to Eco-Club coordinator Ronardson Bey, was to help kids connect with nature. “Children need to see the beauty of our environment. It’s filled with magnificent trees and mountains, and it’s home to various plants and animals that need our protection,” Bey explained.

During the camp, Charne Beypi, an assistant English teacher at BM Shri Chandrasing Teron High School, led a session on biodiversity. She talked about the many species that inhabit our ecosystem and raised concerns about the dangers they face due to environmental changes. Beypi emphasized how vital it is for us to safeguard these species instead of harming them. “We must learn to appreciate and protect the world around us,” she urged.

The children had a hands-on experience, trekking through the hills and learning how to coexist with nature. This camp brought together over 100 students from different schools in Diphu, making it a memorable experience for them.

At the camp’s closing ceremony, Johny Timung, a local Member of Autonomous Council, launched a "Nature Camp" T-shirt to promote conservation efforts. Certificates were handed out to the participants by Bey and other officials from Jakve Asong.

The importance of such programs has grown in recent years. Reports show that there’s a rising awareness of environmental issues among younger generations. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, 74% of teenagers are concerned about climate change, making educational programs like this one even more important. Engaging young minds in nature conservation can have a lasting impact, fostering a sense of responsibility toward the environment as they grow.

Inspiration from such experiences can lead to a wave of activism among youth, as seen in various social media trends. Hashtags like #NatureNurture have been trending, encouraging young people to share their experiences and ideas on protecting our planet.

Through events like this camp, we can encourage a love for nature and motivate future generations to become environmental stewards. The collective effort of communities in raising awareness is essential for a healthier planet.
