Explore the New Jones Family Welcome Center: A Stunning Revitalization of Historic Jacobson Hall at OU

NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma has unveiled the newly renovated Jones Family Welcome Center, transforming Jacobson Hall into a vibrant hub for welcoming students and families. This exciting project was made possible by a generous $15 million donation from OU alumni Jonny and Brenda Jones.

Built in 1919, Jacobson Hall blends historic charm with modern functionality. The 27,300-square-foot space now features a 194-seat theater and meeting rooms for admissions counselors. With an innovative design that angles at 45 degrees, the new addition offers stunning views of the North Oval and Clock Tower.

“The Jones Family Welcome Center will be the starting point of the OU journey for many,” said OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. The renovations enhance the university’s ability to engage with prospective students and showcase the broad possibilities that OU offers.

The Joneses are longtime supporters of the university and co-chairs for “Lead On: The University of Oklahoma’s Campaign for the Future.” This campaign has already raised over $1.5 billion of its $2 billion goal and reflects the family’s deep ties to OU, with Jonny’s grandfather enrolling the same year Jacobson Hall was built.

Each year, the Welcome Center hosts over 700 personalized campus tours, attracting around 20,000 visitors. This year is especially significant as it welcomes the largest freshman class in Oklahoma’s history, the Class of 2029.

Jeff Blahnik, OU’s Chief Enrollment Officer, emphasized that this renovation creates a space that embodies OU’s hospitality while enhancing their recruitment efforts. The community’s investment in the center is crucial as they aim to attract students eager to make a positive impact.

The Jones family’s donation aligns with OU’s Strategic Plan, particularly its focus on empowering students for success and fostering impactful lives. Their contributions have also supported various initiatives across campus, including athletics and the Sarkeys Energy Center.

According to a recent survey by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, personalized campus experiences significantly influence student enrollment decisions, underscoring the importance of spaces like the Welcome Center in shaping the university’s future.
