Exploring ‘Ghost of Yotei’: How Life Transformation Sparks New Adventures

My life has changed a lot. I’m older, married, and now I have a toddler and a newborn. It’s a jungle out there, especially when it comes to gaming. Juggling family life and a job in the gaming world is tough. But I’m diving into Ghost of Yotei, which has added a fresh twist to my gaming routine.

Playing Yotei has become quite the challenge. I can only play on my PS5, which limits my gaming sessions, especially after the kids go to bed. I usually grab time on my PC during the evenings while my wife unwinds on the couch. Weekends? Forget it! They’re all about family time now.

This change in how I game has really slowed me down. I’ve been at it for a week and have only taken down one member of the Yotei Six—the first guy you encounter in the prologue. Talk about taking my sweet time!

The world in Yotei is rich and filled with distractions. Villagers call for help. There are campfires sending up smoke. Animals lead you to hidden areas. While it’s similar to Ghost of Tsushima, my experience now feels different due to my limited time.

When I look at those “time to beat” statistics, I’m baffled. They claim you can finish the main quest in about 20 hours. But from what I see, many players take much longer. I suspect I’ll need a month to finish it! That’s a big departure from my past gaming days.

Interestingly, games have become more complex over the years. According to a 2023 survey by the Entertainment Software Association, about 76% of Americans play video games, up from 50% in 2007. This shows how video gaming has woven itself into the fabric of our lives.

As for Yotei, is it my Game of the Year? Not quite—Expedition 33 still holds that title. But Yotei stands strong on its own. It’s a fantastic follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. I’m excited about the journey ahead, even if it’s a slow one.
