The Philadelphia 76ers are in talks with doctors about Joel Embiid’s injured left knee. They are looking at various options, including possible surgery, according to ESPN.
Embiid has been undergoing treatment, including regular injections, but there hasn’t been any improvement in his condition. He is scheduled for further tests early this week, which will help determine the next steps in his recovery.
Recently, Embiid has suggested that surgery or a longer rest might be necessary for his knee. Despite this, he is eager to keep playing and contribute to the team.
Last season, Embiid played only 39 games after suffering a torn meniscus. He had surgery in February, returned in April for the playoffs, and even helped the U.S. Olympic team win gold. However, he previously admitted he didn’t have enough time to fully recover from surgery.
This season, knee issues combined with a foot sprain have limited him to 19 games so far. His recent performance has also been impacted; after swelling occurred post a game against the Brooklyn Nets, Embiid’s status for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bulls is uncertain.
In the game against the Nets, Embiid struggled and scored only 14 points. This marks the first time since May 2021 that he’s scored 15 points or fewer in consecutive games.
The 76ers are currently on a seven-game losing streak and hold a record of 20-36. Despite initially having high hopes for the season, injuries have taken a toll. Even when star players like Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey are on the court together, Philadelphia has found it difficult to win consistently.
Paul George is also dealing with injuries, including a tendon issue in his left pinkie. He has received injections to continue playing through his injuries.
