Recently, there have been several major aviation incidents in North America. The latest one involved a Delta Air Lines plane that flipped over while landing in Toronto.
A Delta flight from Minneapolis was arriving at Pearson Airport when it overturned on the snowy runway, injuring at least 17 people. All 80 on board were accounted for, but some passengers were taken to nearby hospitals, including a child who was sent to SickKids Hospital.
Video footage showed the aircraft, a CRJ-900LR, resting on its top, surrounded by emergency responders. At the time of the incident, the weather was challenging, with blowing snow and strong winds.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced that the investigation would be led by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
In another incident, a small commuter plane crashed in Alaska, resulting in the loss of all 10 people aboard. The single-engine Cessna Caravan was heading to Nome when it disappeared shortly after takeoff from Unalakleet. A search operation found the wreckage on sea ice the next day.
This flight was crucial for many residents, providing access to essential services and supplies in a vast and rugged state. Among the victims were individuals involved in important work trips as well as those seeking medical care.
In another tragic event, a medical transport jet crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood, killing seven people, including a child patient. This occurred shortly after the Learjet 55 took off, crashing just a few miles from the airport and causing significant damage in the area.
The plane was operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance and was transporting the young patient back home after medical treatment.
Lastly, there was a deadly midair collision near Washington D.C. A military helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight, claiming the lives of all 67 people on both aircraft. This was the deadliest aviation accident in the U.S. since 2001.
The regional jet, preparing to land, was struck by the helicopter during a training exercise. Among the victims were figure skaters returning home and families on a hunting trip.
