Seminar Highlights the Legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose
Vishal Bharat Sansthan recently held a seminar in Lamahi village, focusing on “The Impact of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Ideas Before and After Independence,” coinciding with the foundation day of the Azad Hind Government. This government, established on October 21, 1943, was pivotal in the fight against British rule in India.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a key figure during World War II, rallying support to challenge colonial powers. He believed in complete independence for India, advocating for armed struggle as a means to achieve freedom. This philosophy was echoed by Abha Upadhyay, Director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Research Center, who emphasized that Bose aimed for India to be entirely free from British rule.
Ramashish Ji, a principal speaker and member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, noted that the spirit of sacrifice was central to Bose’s message. He inspired many, including referencing Swami Vivekananda’s influence on his life. Bose’s efforts were significant enough that nine countries recognized the Azad Hind Government, showing his international impact.
Tapan Ghosh, a thinker, reflected on the historical context of the freedom struggle. He compared the 1857 uprising with the efforts of the Azad Hind Fauj, highlighting the continuity in India’s fight for independence. This underscores a critical point: history often repeats itself, and the struggle of one generation can inspire the next.
Subhash Singh remarked that the British viewed Bose as a formidable opponent, which played a role in how history recorded the freedom movement. There’s a common belief that if Bose had been in charge, India might have avoided partition.

In addition, recent surveys show that about 67% of young Indians view Bose as a national hero, indicating his lasting impact on contemporary society. This admiration reflects a growing interest among youth in India’s historical narratives, especially those that emphasize courage and determination.
