With over 250 million learners needing better access to personalized and inclusive education, the recent EY India and ASSOCHAM report highlights the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in building a future-ready learning environment. This report, titled “AI as a Catalyst for Education Delivery,” aligns with India’s vision for Viksit Bharat@2047—a developed India.
AI is already making waves in educational settings. It’s enhancing foundational learning through adaptive technologies and making learning materials more accessible in multiple languages. These advancements also improve decision-making in schools, covering everything from admissions to tracking student performance.
Special attention is given to India’s Eastern and North-Eastern regions. AI can facilitate the delivery of local language content, offer support for teachers, and introduce innovative low-bandwidth solutions that cater specifically to these areas. This focus on regional needs can help bridge educational gaps.
Vikas Aggarwal, a partner at EY and an education sector leader, believes AI could revolutionize education much like mobile phones changed communication. He notes that AI moves learning away from rigid, one-size-fits-all approaches to more engaging and adaptable experiences for both students and teachers.
The report emphasizes that adopting AI isn’t just about technology; it’s a comprehensive strategy for meaningful change. Educational leaders and policymakers are encouraged to think long-term and collaborate for ethical and effective AI integration. This is not just about improving education—it’s about creating an equitable system that aligns with India’s broader development goals.
Historically, the Indian education system has faced challenges like high dropout rates and a lack of resources. Investing in AI offers a way to tackle these issues head-on. For instance, a study by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) indicates that technology-enhanced learning can significantly improve student outcomes. Moreover, in surveys, 77% of educators acknowledge the positive impact of AI on learning experiences.
As the conversation around AI continues, it’s clear that its role in education is both a necessity and an opportunity. Aiming for a Viksit Bharat by 2047 can only be achieved through an education system that is inclusive, adaptable, and capable of meeting the diverse needs of its learners.
