Mr. Trump has quickly reversed many federal climate initiatives. He has rolled back regulations designed to curb pollution and has opened the door wider for fossil fuel companies. This shift comes at a time when the planet is experiencing record heat, driven largely by the use of fossil fuels. Rising temperatures have led to more intense hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and droughts, along with a worrying increase in species extinction.
To implement these dramatic shifts in policy, the Trump administration has cut federal funding, laid off many workers, and attacked long-standing environmental protections. This has significantly altered the landscape of American environmental policy.
While each new president brings their own agenda, the speed and scale of these changes are unusual. Abigail Dillen, president of the environmental law firm Earthjustice, described the situation as a “full on Fight Club,” highlighting its aggressive nature.

Notably, on Inauguration Day, Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement, making it the only nation to do so. This withdrawal signals a dramatic shift away from international cooperation on climate issues.
