Eye-Catching Pro-ICE Billboard Debuts in San Francisco Just in Time for the Super Bowl!

A new digital billboard near Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco has stirred up strong feelings among locals. The ad, which supports ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), features the phrase, “Defensive Player of the Year: ICE.”

Reactions to the billboard are sharply divided. Karen Guerrero from Chicago expressed her disgust, saying, “It made me sick to my stomach. It puts fear in me—desensitizing people to think it’s okay to hurt others.” In contrast, Scott Yurt, also from Chicago, defended ICE, stating, “They have a job to do, and I don’t have a problem with that.”

Behind the billboard is a group called “American Sovereignty.” ABC Bay Area tried to contact them for more information but hasn’t received a response.

Meanwhile, in San Jose, a different sentiment is brewing. A demonstration occurred where community activists, immigrant rights groups, and labor unions marched against ICE. They shouted, “ICE is not welcome in the Bay Area,” reflecting a unified stance against the agency.

Michelle Merrill, a resident from Santa Clara, voiced her concerns: “I’m worried for my neighbors and what is happening. It feels like it’s escalating.” As the Super Bowl approaches, residents plan to amplify their message. Joao Paulo Connolly, with Silicon Valley Rising, said, “We have a ‘Week of Action’ during the Super Bowl. It’s a chance to show that both ICE and figures like Kristi Noem aren’t welcome here.”

The billboard’s presence has brought the ongoing debate about immigration enforcement to the forefront. According to a recent Gallup poll, nearly 75% of Americans support a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, which highlights the disparity in viewpoints within various communities.

Ultimately, the digital billboard has become more than just an advertisement; it ignites a larger discussion about immigration, safety, and community values during a time when tensions are high. This clash not only reflects local sentiments but also connects to wider national conversations surrounding immigration policy.
