LaTroy Lewis’s time as the Atlanta Falcons’ assistant defensive line coach lasted only 17 days before he was dismissed following serious allegations of rape. According to a report by Darko State News, the accusations emerged during his previous position on the coaching staff at the University of Michigan.

The Falcons quickly addressed the situation, confirming they were gathering information about the allegations and later announcing Lewis’s firing. In their official statement, they said: “The Atlanta Falcons have dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis from his role.”

The Ann Arbor Police Department is currently investigating the claims. Reports indicate that the alleged assault occurred while Lewis was at Michigan. Details suggest that Lewis not only assaulted the accuser but also sent threatening texts, such as “I’m going to fuck you up” and “I’d fucking kill you! Don’t play with me.”

Adding to the gravity of the situation, it’s been reported that the accuser shared her experience with Michigan’s head coach, Sherrone Moore, who, as a mandated reporter under Title IX, had a legal obligation to report the incident. Instead, it appears he provided Lewis a raise and allegedly harassed the accuser himself.

The incident reportedly took place in 2024, while Lewis served as the defensive line coach at the University of Toledo in 2025 before joining the NFL.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Lewis, leading to questions about how his background check could have missed these serious allegations. While Lewis is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the Falcons acted swiftly to protect their reputation, especially as they are already dealing with scrutiny in relation to a separate criminal case.
