The Atlanta Falcons have made a significant trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They’ve sent defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro to the Jaguars and received Maason Smith in return.
Orhorhoro was picked 35th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played 25 games for the Falcons, starting in eight. His standout year was 2025 when he contributed 3.5 sacks, helping the Falcons set a franchise record for sacks. He also made 25 tackles, four for loss, along with six quarterback hits. With two years left on his rookie deal, he moves to Jacksonville.
In trade, the Falcons welcome Maason Smith, picked shortly after Orhorhoro at 48th overall. He had a solid college career at LSU, earning Freshman All-American honors. Although injuries affected some of his seasons, his final year saw him achieving 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four quarterback hurries.
Smith stands tall at 6-foot-5 and weighs 306 pounds. Draft analyst Dane Brugler praised his potential, noting his impressive physical traits. He believes Smith can become a valuable player with the right coaching. His size and quickness make him appealing, especially since these attributes are rare in this draft class.
Since entering the NFL, Smith has played 24 games, starting seven. His playing time varied, with 51% of snaps in 2024 and 36% in 2025. In his rookie year, he recorded three sacks and made 17 tackles, three for loss.
Both players have shown promise in their short careers, and this trade represents a fresh start for each. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this swap will unfold, especially as both players develop in their new roles.
