The Anne Arundel County Food Bank (AACFB) held its fourth annual Feeding Hope fundraiser at the U.S. Naval Academy’s Fluegel Alumni Center on June 12, 2025. This event, sponsored by the Deerbrook Fund, gathered local residents and businesses to support the food bank’s mission of providing fresh food to those in need.
Attendees enjoyed delicious meals from various local restaurants, including Caliente Grill and Café Mezzanotte. The evening was lively, featuring music from Red Betty & The Ruckus.
Food insecurity is a pressing issue in Anne Arundel County. Statistics show that more than 66,000 residents—over 11% of the population—struggle with it. This year, AACFB assists about 48,000 individuals each month, highlighting the growing need for support. Leah Paley, the food bank’s CEO, noted that ongoing economic challenges have made it difficult for many families to afford basic necessities.
“Many families are facing job losses and rising costs,” she explained. “Supporting the food bank helps ensure they have access to nutritious meals.”
One creative highlight of the evening was a “can-struction” art installation made entirely from food cans, created by Studio 343 with the help of local sponsors. Such artistic initiatives not only bring attention to the cause but also inspire generosity in the community.
The fundraiser exceeded expectations, raising over $120,000 thanks to more than 40 sponsors, including Wegmans and the Lift As We Climb Foundation. This support is vital as the food bank continues its work to aid families throughout the county.
