WARM SPRINGS, Ore. — As winter and the holiday season approach, families on the Warm Springs Reservation are receiving a valuable gift for their pets. Fences For Fido, along with Warm Springs Commodities, has received a generous donation of 20,000 pounds of dog and cat food from Purina.
The Warm Springs Reservation, located in Jefferson County, is over 15 miles from the nearest town that offers veterinary services or pet supplies. This makes it tough for families to access basic animal care. Still, these families always show immense love for their pets, often working hard to make sure their animals are fed and healthy.
This donation from Purina comes at an ideal time, just as families are getting ready for the holidays.
For five years, Fences For Fido has run a pet food bank on the Warm Springs Reservation, partnering with Warm Springs Commodities to provide year-round support. This large donation will greatly enhance their efforts.
“This is the best holiday gift we could offer families with pets,” said Kelly Peterson, Co-Founder of Fences For Fido. “Access to pet food here is limited, so this helps ensure that pets stay healthy and loved.”
A pet food giveaway event will take place this Saturday, distributing food directly to families throughout the Reservation.
Warm Springs Commodities is crucial in meeting community needs. Their partnership with Fences For Fido ensures pet food consistently reaches those who need it. “We’re thankful for this partnership and for Greater Good’s generosity,” said Theo Perez, Director of Warm Springs Commodities. “Families here care deeply about their pets, and this support helps ease their burden during challenging times.”
Fences For Fido has a history of supporting isolated communities in the Pacific Northwest. They’ve unchained over 3,700 dogs and distributed more than 700,000 pounds of pet food. They also provide essential services, including spay/neuter programs, vaccinations, and emergency veterinary care.
This Saturday’s giveaway aims to extend that support even further, ensuring more pets can stay healthy and at home with their families.
With recent statistics showing an increase in pet ownership during tough economic times, initiatives like this become even more vital. Studies indicate that more families view pets as family members, emphasizing the importance of keeping them healthy and well-fed, especially during the colder months.
Fences For Fido’s commitment to pet welfare resonates strongly, as they aim to create a safer environment for animals while strengthening the bonds between pets and their families.
