This year, Mendoza will be the third quarterback in as many seasons to wear this number. The Raiders are likely hoping Mendoza stays with the team for at least 15 more seasons, bringing fresh energy and talent.
Historically, the Raiders opted not to retire jersey numbers, which is why No. 15 has remained in circulation. Flores’s approval of Mendoza highlights the team’s connection to its past while looking ahead.
