Infantino emphasized that the tournament, held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, will significantly benefit global soccer development, stating, “Without FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries.”
However, fans were shocked by the prices, leading to widespread outcry. Tickets range from $140 for some early matches to a staggering $8,680 for the best seats at the final in New Jersey. To ease the backlash, FIFA introduced a limited number of $60 tickets for supporters of participating teams. But these will make up a small portion of the overall ticket availability.
Infantino noted that ticket demand showcases the World Cup’s immense popularity. He stated, “This shows how powerful the World Cup is.” In a more recent survey, conducted by a sports management firm, 72% of fans expressed their concerns about affordability. Experts suggest that while it’s vital for FIFA to generate revenue, the steep pricing can alienate dedicated fans who may struggle to afford the experience.
