World Cup Ticket Sales Surge as Fans Worldwide Join In

MIAMI — The excitement for next year’s World Cup is palpable, with over a million tickets already snapped up. FIFA shared this news as the ticket sales opened earlier this month. Unsurprisingly, the highest demand is coming from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, the three nations hosting the tournament. Fans from 212 countries have already purchased tickets, even with only 28 of the 48 spots confirmed for the competition.

Among the top ticket buyers are football-loving fans from England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and France. The tournament is set to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s incredible to see so many fans eager to be part of this historic event in North America.”

The resale market has also opened, with tickets for the World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, priced between $9,538 and $57,500. However, FIFA hasn’t provided specific numbers for ticket sales by match or location, which is different from previous tournaments.

The first ticket round was highly competitive, with 4.5 million applicants participating in a lottery. A new round opens on October 27, where fans will have the chance to buy single-match tickets for all 104 games, as well as venue- and team-specific tickets.

With 7.1 million seats available across 16 North American venues, how many of these will be up for grabs is still unclear. Interestingly, the cheapest tickets are set at $60 for some matches, while top-tier seats for the U.S. opening match in Inglewood range from $560 to $2,735. One resale listing even showed a ticket at a staggering $61,642.

FIFA is adopting dynamic pricing for the first time, meaning ticket prices may fluctuate based on demand. Winners of the next ticket draw will have a chance to secure their seats from mid-November to early December.

In another exciting announcement, NBA star Luka Doncic was revealed as an ambassador for the World Cup matches in Los Angeles. Fluent in four languages, the Slovenian player aims to unite fans from various cultures. “Los Angeles is home to so many sports lovers,” Doncic noted. “I’m excited for the World Cup and proud to connect people through football.”
