The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is taking firm action against a Walu Bay processing company linked to illegal dumping of fish waste on Namosi Road. Following a joint inspection, officials found that the company didn’t have a proper Waste Disposal Permit and employed an unlicensed transporter to handle its waste.
The transporter faced denial at Naboro Landfill because the fish waste wasn’t packaged correctly. Surveillance footage confirmed that the same vehicle later dumped the waste unlawfully. Authorities have since recovered the dumped waste, returned it to the facility, and arranged for its proper disposal by a licensed operator.
The company will receive a Non-Compliance Notice for failing to have a valid permit, and further action will be taken for the illegal dumping, which breaches the Environment Management Act 2005. Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Lynda Tabuya, expressed her outrage over the situation. She stated, “This conduct is unacceptable. Businesses must follow the law on waste disposal. Ignorance does not justify unlawful dumping.”
