Project DASH is making a real difference in South Jersey. It helps food pantries use DoorDash’s technology to deliver food directly to seniors and families in need. Recently, this initiative celebrated a significant milestone with the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ).
Since teaming up, DoorDash drivers—known as “Dashers”—have completed over 5,000 deliveries to residents in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. Local leaders, including Assembly Leader Louis Greenwald and Camden County Commissioner Jennifer Fleisher, joined the celebration of this achievement with a special delivery event.
Through Project DASH, FBSJ offers crucial nutrition to seniors via its Senior Nutrition Resource Supplement program. They also assist other families facing food insecurity through a wide network of agencies and mobile pantries. This partnership, supported by the New Jersey Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and a $7,500 grant, has expanded FBSJ’s outreach, allowing more people access to healthy food options.
Additionally, FBSJ leverages Project DASH for medically tailored nutrition. By delivering specialized, healthy meals to participants, they remove barriers related to transportation, making it easier for people to stay healthy.
Jane Asselta, president and CEO of FBSJ, highlighted the importance of food access, saying, “For some, getting nutritious food delivered isn’t just convenient; it’s vital for their well-being.” This program helps people stay nourished and connected to necessary support.
Alex Spyropoulos, who heads New Jersey Public Policy at DoorDash, emphasized the shared mission to combat hunger. “Surpassing 5,000 deliveries shows our commitment to ensuring every neighbor has access to food right at their door,” he stated.
Since its launch in 2018, Project DASH has empowered food banks across the U.S. and Canada. It has facilitated over 8 million deliveries, providing around 135 million meals and saving people more than 5 million hours.
This partnership exemplifies how technology and community can work together to fight hunger, improving lives one delivery at a time. For more information on this important initiative, check out DoorDash’s official page.
