Fins’ Jackson Faces Injury Setback: What It Means for the Team and Fans

Miami Dolphins Tackle Austin Jackson Out with Injury

Austin Jackson, an offensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins, will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a lower leg injury. Coach Mike McDaniel shared that Jackson got “stepped on” during practice. Fortunately, it seems his recovery won’t extend into the regular season.

Jackson was drafted in the first round in 2020 and has become a vital part of the team. Earlier this year, he signed a three-year contract for $36 million. Last season, he missed nine games with a meniscus injury, but McDaniel stated this current injury is not connected to that.

“He got hurt playing football. It’s just one of those things,” McDaniel explained. He noted that Jackson has been improving and was performing even better than before.

Jackson’s absence last season affected the team’s performance. The Dolphins’ run block win rate dropped from 71.5% to 67.3% when he was out. Their pass block win rate also fell sharply from 62.4% with him to just 50% without him. These statistics ranked among the worst in the league.

Looking forward, McDaniel mentioned that Jackson is expected to start in the Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts. In the meantime, the Dolphins have signed Germain Ifedi, a former first-round pick, to help strengthen the offensive line. Ifedi started seven games for the Cleveland Browns recently and has experience with teams like the Seahawks and Bears.

The Dolphins also welcomed back safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who had been on the non-football injury list since training camp. His return is crucial, especially since other players in the secondary have been dealing with injuries.

As the season approaches, the Dolphins will need to navigate these injuries carefully. Maintaining a strong offensive line is key to their success. Every player matters, and Jackson’s health will be pivotal as the team gears up for their first game.
