Fioroni Achieves Stunning Wire-to-Wire Win at Southern Highlands Collegiate – A Triumph for UNLV Athletics!

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men’s golf senior Caden Fioroni celebrated a big win at the Southern Highlands Collegiate. He dominated the tournament at Southern Highlands Golf Club, finishing with a score of 9-under 207.

Caden is now the seventh Rebel to claim individual medalist honors and the first since 2019. His success adds to the program’s recent wins, making it the second consecutive individual champion this spring.

In this tense competition, Caden held onto a two-shot lead over Carson Bacha from Auburn as he approached the final holes. He played it cool, finishing strong with his sixth straight par on the 18th hole.

The team also held its own, posting an even-par 288 on the final day. They wrapped up the tournament in second place, just behind Auburn. In a competitive field with 14 teams, including nine ranked in the top 25, the Rebels impressed by finishing ahead of several top programs like No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 9 Virginia.

Other Rebels had solid performances too. Sophomore Zach Little tied for 12th, while seniors Trevor Lewis and Wyatt Plattner placed tied for 28th and 30th, respectively. Senior Ben Sawaia rounded out the team in 63rd. Individually, sophomore Dillon Dean finished 47th, and juniors Billy Smith and Brett Sawaia ended in 75th and 80th places.

Head Coach Jean-Paul Hebert shared his pride in the team, highlighting their resilience in tough weather conditions. He believes that victories inspire the whole team, and Caden’s win aligns with their goals for multiple individual triumphs.

Next up, the Rebels will compete again on March 17 at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston.
