First Look at the Pixel 9a: Is This Budget Phone Worth Your Money?

The Pixel 9a is creating a bit of buzz. Recent leaks, including a hands-on video, highlight what to expect when it arrives. But many say it looks cheaper than previous models, which is a concern.

While we don’t know the official launch date yet, it seems the Pixel 9a will stick to a familiar pattern. Like earlier versions, it aims to deliver top features in a more budget-friendly design. Expect to see the Tensor G4 chip, up to 8GB of RAM, and a 120Hz OLED display. These elements are what make Pixel phones appealing.

However, to keep the price lower, some materials may not match the premium feel of its counterparts. A recent video leak gave a glimpse of some of these changes. The modifications seem widespread across the device.

One noticeable change is the rear panel of the Obsidian model. It appears less refined compared to models like the Pixel 7a and 8a, which had their own material adjustments but still maintained a premium look. A follow-up post suggests that, despite its cheaper appearance, the Pixel 9a has a distinctive “Nokia Lumia” feel, which could be a nice touch.

The design adjustments, especially in the camera area, stand out too. The new plastic rings differ significantly from the previous camera designs seen in the last three A-series phones. The matte finish aligns better with newer models, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

What do you think about this design shift? It’s hard to judge fully until we can try it out. Many are hoping for an official announcement soon, with rumors pointing to a late March launch.
