Exciting news! Christopher Nolan is bringing Homer’s classic epic, The Odyssey, to the big screen. Matt Damon has been announced as the lead character, Odysseus.
Universal Pictures recently shared a first-look photo of Damon in character, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from this highly anticipated film.
The cast reads like a star-studded dream team. Alongside Damon, we’ll see Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and many more talented actors.
For a while, the film’s subject was a mystery, but just before Christmas, Universal revealed that it would indeed be The Odyssey. They describe it as a “mythic action epic,” filmed around the globe using cutting-edge IMAX technology.
This project marks Nolan’s continued partnership with Universal, following the success of Oppenheimer. It’s also notable as Nolan’s first major film after leaving Warner Bros. back in 2020.
The story of The Odyssey follows Odysseus on his challenging ten-year voyage home after the Trojan War. As he navigates his way back to Ithaca, he faces obstacles from gods and mythical creatures. Meanwhile, his wife and son deal with unwelcome suitors vying for his throne.
Fans will have to wait until July 17, 2026, for the movie’s release, with production expected to start soon. This will be Damon’s third collaboration with Nolan, following their work on Oppenheimer and Interstellar.
Nolan recently won his first Oscars for Oppenheimer, taking home awards for Best Picture and Best Director. With his talent and this impressive cast, The Odyssey is set to be another remarkable film.
