The Florida State men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the ITA Sectional Championships in Athens and the Battle of the Beach in Destin. These tournaments were crucial for the Seminoles.
At the ITA Sectional Championships, Erik Schiessl, Azariah Rusher, and Corey Craig took the court. Rusher had a standout performance, defeating No. 109 ranked Stefano D’Agostino in straight sets.
In Destin, the Seminoles played against Tulane and dominated. Justin Lyons won his match 6-4, 6-2 against Asaf Friedler. Jan Sebesta fought hard, coming back to beat Andres Delgadillo in three sets: 6-7, 6-3, 6-1. Gabriele Brancetalli and Oren Ezerzer added two more wins, wrapping up a perfect day for the team.
The momentum continued into doubles. Lyons and Sebesta teamed up to beat South Florida’s duo, while Brancetalli and Ezerzer won decisively.
Looking ahead, Florida State will compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship from November 18-23 in Orlando. This will be a significant event for Luis Felipe Miguel and Schiessl, marking their first appearance at the NCAA postseason after qualifying during the ITA Regional Championships.
In the last few years, Florida State has been working hard to build a competitive program. Winning against ranked opponents is a great sign of their growth.
