As storms swept through Nashville, many residents faced power outages and food shortages. In response, local relief organizations jumped in to help.
On February 4, Food Lion Feeds teamed up with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to deliver essential supplies to families affected by the outages. This crucial support came as over 8,000 people were still without power.
The donation included 16,000 pounds of shelf-stable food and more than 8,000 bottles of water. Along with these items, Food Lion also offered $5,000 in gift cards. These cards will help families restock their fridges once the electricity is restored.
Kevin Durkee, manager of Food Lion Feeds, emphasized their commitment to the community during tough times. Alongside Brad Bornac, the director of food resourcing at Second Harvest, they quickly coordinated the logistics to make sure the food reached those who needed it most.
For many, this support provides more than just food. It brings a sense of stability when everything else feels uncertain. “When the power goes out, the clock starts ticking on everything in the fridge,” Bornac noted. The relief means families can concentrate on recovery instead of worrying about where their next meal will come from.
