Foreign Secretary Wraps Up Nepal Visit: Extends Invitation to PM Oli for a Trip to India

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently wrapped up a two-day visit to Nepal, returning home on August 18, 2025. He delivered a formal invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli for a future visit to India.

During his stay, Misri met with key leaders in Nepal, including President Ramchandra Paudel and Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba. He shared greetings from India’s leadership and discussed the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.

Both Misri and the Nepali Foreign Secretary, Amrit Bahadur Rai, engaged in extensive talks about their shared goals. They reviewed progress on various initiatives that benefit both countries and explored future opportunities, including potential outcomes of PM Oli’s upcoming visit to India.

The visit reinforces India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Nepal, aligning with its Neighbourhood First policy. Recent years have seen notable advancements in areas like connectivity, security, and energy cooperation.

In a significant move, Misri also met with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff. He provided military aid, including Light Strike Vehicles (LSVs) and medical equipment, showcasing the defense partnership between the two nations.

The dialogue between India and Nepal continues to evolve, focusing on mutual growth and security. According to a recent survey by the South Asia Democratic Forum, 77% of Nepalese view India as a key ally, reflecting the importance of these exchanges.

Both leaders recognized the achievements in their bilateral relations, emphasizing ongoing cooperation in diverse sectors. As social media buzzes with support for stronger ties, it’s clear that both nations see a bright future together.
