Hyderabad: Since Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, voices within the cricket community have called for a proper tribute to him. Former cricketer Suresh Raina added his thoughts, suggesting that Kohli deserves the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. He emphasized that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should organize a farewell match for Kohli.
Raina shared his views on Star Sports, stating, “Kohli has achieved so much for Indian cricket and the country. He truly deserves the Bharat Ratna.”
The Bharat Ratna is a significant honor in India, awarded by the President. So far, only one cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, has received it. Kohli has already won the Arjuna Award in 2013, the Padma Shri in 2017, and the Khel Ratna in 2018.
Raina also spoke about the importance of having a farewell match in Delhi. “It would mean a lot for his family and coach to be there. Kohli has given so much; he deserves this acknowledgment,” he added.
