SEC Outdoor Championships: Oklahoma Sooners Shine
Four athletes from the Oklahoma Sooners made history at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, winning individual conference titles.
Championship Highlights
Agur Dwol kicked off the day by winning gold in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 14.02m (46’0"). She faced stiff competition from Texas A&M’s Winny Bii, who jumped 14.01m (45’11.75"). Dwol’s victory marks the first conference title for a Sooner woman in this event since 1992.
Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi finished fourth in the same event, jumping 13.45m (44’1.50"), which places her 10th in the nation this season and fifth in Oklahoma’s outdoor history. Ashley Moore also impressed, achieving a personal best of 13.26m (43’6"), securing seventh place.
In the pole vault, Olivia Lueking cleared 4.36m (14’3.50") to win her second conference title this season. This adds to her indoor championship earlier in the year. Her teammate, Filippa Miller, also contributed with a sixth-place finish.
On the men’s side, Ralford Mullings dominated the discus with a throw of 66.48m (218’1"), setting a new facility record. BJ Green sealed the Sooners’ fourth title in the men’s triple jump with a jump of 16.72m (54’10.25"). Floyd Whitaker also made a mark, achieving bronze with a personal best of 16.19m (53’1.50"), ranking eighth in the nation this season.
Kyren Washington, the SEC indoor high jump champion, earned bronze in the high jump by clearing 2.20m (7’2.50"). He improved his rankings, now sitting eighth regionally and thirteenth nationally.
Overall Team Performance
The women’s team finished sixth with 56.5 points, while the men placed tenth with 44 points.
Looking Ahead
Athletes who qualify will advance to the NCAA West Regional, scheduled for May 28-31 at Texas A&M.
