Four-Star Forward Chris Washington Jr. Chooses Tennessee Basketball: What His Commitment Means for the 2026 Class

Chris Washington Jr. has officially joined the Tennessee basketball team. He made the announcement on Thursday.

This 6-foot-8 forward is a four-star prospect and ranks No. 49 in the Rivals Industry Ranking for the 2026 class. Before this, he was committed to Alabama. Tennessee’s coaching team worked hard to get him on campus, and after his visit on Tuesday, he decided to commit.

Washington chose Tennessee over strong contenders like Auburn, Ole Miss, Villanova, and USC. He is the fourth player to commit to the Vols for the 2026 class.

Joining him are four-star guard Ralph Scott, three-star guard Manny Green, and three-star point guard Marquis Clark. Scott, at 6-foot-8, ranks as the No. 58 prospect in the class and signed with the Vols back in November.

Washington’s commitment is part of a broader strategy to build an exciting roster for the 2026-27 season. Tennessee is proactive, having already secured four players from the transfer portal.

The first to join was Belmont guard Tyler Lundblade, who had a standout season. He averaged 15.6 points per game, showcasing impressive sharpshooting by hitting over 40% from three-point range. He not only made 115 three-pointers last season but also ranked among the top players in this category.

Then there’s Cal’s Dai Dai Ames, who had a career year, averaging 16.9 points and shooting over 37% from beyond the arc. He had several standout performances, scoring over 20 points in 12 games.

Miles Rubin, a forward from Loyola (Chicago), contributed significantly before transferring, averaging 11.3 points and leading in blocks with a remarkable total of 237 in his career.

Finally, Jalen Harralson from Notre Dame rounded out Tennessee’s transfer signings. He averaged 16.2 points and shot an impressive 51.1% from the field, demonstrating his scoring ability.

As the Vols strengthen their lineup, this combination of recruits and transfers could lead to a promising season ahead. The focus now is on building team chemistry and strategizing for success on the court.
