Free Drive-Up Food Assistance: Upcoming Dates from the Food Bank of Northern Indiana You Can’t Miss!

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is reaching out to families in La Porte and Starke Counties. They are hosting several free drive-up food assistance events throughout May. This is a great opportunity for those who need help with groceries.

The first event is scheduled for May 8th at the Last Resort Campground in La Porte County, starting at 10 AM. This event will provide food for 100 families until noon or while supplies last.

Another event is set for May 15th at the First Church of God in La Porte. It will run from 12:30 PM to 2 PM, catering to 150 households.

Starke County will also see two food distributions on May 22nd. The first is at Knox United Methodist Church from 9 AM to 10:30 AM, serving another 150 families. The second event will happen at the Hamlet Fairgrounds from 11:30 AM to 1 PM, with supplies for an additional 150 households.

The last event for this month is on May 29th at Tierney Park in San Pierre. This drive-up will start at 10 AM and continue until noon, providing food for up to 250 households.

Each event will feature a variety of pre-boxed and pre-bagged food items, all offered free of charge. Supplies are limited, and it’s first come, first served, with each household allowed one box or bag.

The need for food assistance is growing. According to Feeding America, nearly 38 million people in the U.S. faced food insecurity in 2021. This was a significant rise compared to previous years, reflecting the ongoing economic challenges many families face. Programs like this are vital to support those in need.

Community members are encouraged to share this information to help spread the word. These events not only provide food but also foster community spirit, bringing people together during tough times.
