From Bollywood Star Power to Global Leadership: Discover How India’s WAVES Summit is Transforming the Media & Entertainment Landscape

India is making major strides to become a powerhouse in the global media and entertainment (M&E) sector. This goal is highlighted by the upcoming World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025). Scheduled from May 1 to 4 at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, the event aims to showcase India’s rich storytelling heritage while pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is at the helm of this initiative, sparking excitement across various sectors in M&E. Inspired by global platforms like the World Economic Forum and the Cannes Film Festival, WAVES 2025 aspires to be the premier destination for creators, investors, and innovators.

One of the standout features of WAVES 2025 is WaveX Live, an investment and innovation platform that connects startups in animation, gaming, and emerging technologies with potential investors. This initiative comes at a time when tech in entertainment is rapidly evolving. According to the recent PwC Global Entertainment & Media Outlook, the global media market is set to grow to $2.6 trillion by 2026, suggesting a huge opportunity for countries like India to capture a larger share.

A key attraction of WAVES 2025 is the Create in India Challenge (CIC), inviting creators globally to participate. The challenge has attracted over 77,000 entrants from more than 35 countries, with 726 top creators to be celebrated. This kind of participation reflects the growing interest in Indian media, echoing earlier phases of global entertainment where certain countries dominated based on cultural narratives.

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has already voiced his support for WAVES 2025, promoting it as a vital platform for creativity. His involvement highlights the fusion of traditional and modern influences in India’s evolving entertainment landscape.

WAVES 2025 also aims to facilitate dialogue among global industry leaders, diplomats, and policymakers. Through an initiative known as the Global Media Dialogue, the summit will engage representatives from over 150 countries. The goal is to develop a strategic roadmap for international media collaboration, culminating in the WAVES Declaration 2025.

The agenda is packed with discussions on crucial topics, including content monetization, technology integration, and promoting diversity in media. These topics are vital as they align with current trends where consumers demand more inclusive and innovative content. A recent survey by McKinsey found that companies with diverse executive teams were 25% more likely to outperform their counterparts.

Additionally, WAVES will not just be about business. It will feature cultural events reflecting India’s artistic diversity, further establishing its “soft power” globally. Live concerts and showcases will connect creators and audiences, celebrating creativity from India and the world.

With the M&E sector projected to reach a market size of $50 billion by 2029, WAVES 2025 could serve as a turning point, positioning India as a leading hub for global media and entertainment.

In essence, WAVES 2025 stands as a milestone event, promising to bridge gaps between creativity, technology, and investment, reinforcing India’s ongoing evolution in the entertainment realm.
