Adam Johnson, who was famously photographed carrying then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium, has filed to run as a Republican for an at-large seat on the Manatee County Commission.
Johnson submitted his candidacy on January 6, the fifth anniversary of the riot. He told WWSB-TV, “It’s definitely good for getting the buzz out there.” His campaign logo features the image of him with the podium, emphasizing his controversial past.
Johnson isn’t alone. Several others linked to the January 6 events have also pursued political office. At least three tried, but failed, to win congressional seats in 2024. His resolve? “I will be more heavily scrutinized than any other candidate.” He believes this could ultimately benefit the community, making local politicians more accountable.
