San Antonio’s Mayor, Ron Nirenberg, is heading back to the classroom after his time at City Hall wraps up. Starting in August, he will take on the role of Calgaard Distinguished Professor of Practice at Trinity University.

Nirenberg isn’t a stranger to Trinity; he graduated from there in 1999 and even worked as the general manager of the campus radio station, KFTU, before entering politics. His past experiences at Trinity have shaped him, and he looks forward to giving back.

In his own words, Nirenberg said, “I’m honored to return to Trinity this coming year. My time as a student here shaped who I am as a leader. I’m eager to engage with students and faculty and explore how communication, public policy, and leadership shape our communities.”

Trinity’s President, Vanessa B. Beasley, also expressed excitement about Nirenberg’s return. She noted that his dedication to public service aligns with the university’s values and that his presence would enhance the academic mission.

Nirenberg will not only teach but serve as an ambassador for the university. His appointment can be renewed after a year, beginning August 1, 2025.
