FLUSHING, Mich.—The recent end of the government shutdown hasn’t lessened the need for food assistance in Mid-Michigan. In fact, local initiatives are stepping up to fill the gap.
Two years ago, Faith Molyneux launched Daisy’s Farm Stand to provide fresh produce to the community. What started as a simple farm stand has grown into a vital resource for those facing hunger.
Many food banks have limited hours, making it hard for people with day jobs to access assistance. “I kept hearing from individuals who couldn’t get food when they needed it,” Faith shared. This led her to create her own pantry, open anytime for anyone in need.
Now, Faith sees around ten visitors each day, sometimes even more. “I restock multiple times a day to keep up with demand,” she said. Despite facing challenges with donations, she is committed to helping her neighbors.
The farm stand offers a variety of essentials—canned goods, hygiene products, diapers, soaps, and more. “We aim to provide basic necessities for everyone,” she explained. With holidays approaching, some items, like diapers and canned food, have been flying off the shelves.
Faith believes that no one should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. “Food is a basic necessity,” she stated. “Everyone deserves to eat.”
The community’s response has been positive, with many people stopping by to either receive help or donate. Faith has even set up an Amazon Wishlist on her Facebook page for easy contributions.
This initiative highlights a growing trend of community support in the face of economic challenges. According to recent studies, more than 40 million Americans seek food assistance each year, a number that has increased during tough economic times.
As local efforts like Daisy’s Farm Stand continue to emerge, they remind us of the power of community support and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to essential resources.
