Meet the Jolliest Claus: Ticker Lock’s Unique Approach to Santa
In Casper, Wyoming, there’s a man named Ticker Lock who takes Christmas joy to a new level. At just 52, he’s not your typical Santa. Swapping the classic stocking cap for a stylish top hat and cane, he’s become known as the “Jolliest Claus.”
Ticker runs a food truck called Rockin Burgers N Dogs during the warmer months. When winter hits, he transforms into Santa, bringing smiles to children’s faces at more than 20 festive events around Casper and beyond.
One highlight of his year is attending community gatherings like the Mingle & Jingle in Douglas, where he helped light up Jackalope Square. Ticker loves seeing children’s reactions. “I have a huge heart for kids,” he says. “It’s what makes it all worth it.”
How It All Began
Ticker’s journey as Santa began about four years ago when he was invited to feature his food truck at a local Cowboy Christmas event. When complications arose, his friend from the organizing committee suggested he take on the role of Santa instead. Ticker went to Santa school, embraced his new role, and has been delighting children ever since.
His experience as a DJ helped him connect with his audience. Ticker believes that being fun, professional, and creative makes his visits special. He’s learned to quickly think on his feet, creating imaginative explanations for the many curious questions children ask.
A Special Connection
Recently, a young girl asked Ticker if she could see her dad for Christmas. When he learned that her father had passed away, he shifted gears to provide comfort. “I tell them, ‘I don’t know what you’re going through, but he loved you very much,’” Ticker explains.
He strives to keep memories fresh, recalling what kids asked for from one visit to the next. During a recent event in Douglas, he even recognized a girl who reminded him of her Christmas wish for a pony with a unicorn horn.
Keeping It Real
Ticker follows strict guidelines. He’ll never pose for an inappropriate photo or be in a home without a guardian present. His wife often joins him on visits, donning the name “Tinsel” rather than the traditional Mrs. Claus.
During home visits close to Christmas, Ticker works with families ahead of time. He learns all the names of the children and even brings along the presents. When he arrives, he greets the kids with festive surprises and reads “The Night Before Christmas.”
Engaging at Events
Tickler doesn’t just sit back during parades. He actively engages with children, handing out special North Pole bills as gifts. These $50 or $100 bills have a holiday message, putting smiles on little faces. He makes sure to keep the spirit of Christmas alive by highlighting the true meaning of the season: “Jesus is the real reason for Christmas,” he reminds everyone.
A Unique Touch
In a world where Santa takes on various forms, Ticker Lock stands out. His mix of tradition and personal flair creates unforgettable moments. Whether it’s sharing heartfelt stories, making kids laugh, or creating magical memories, the Jolliest Claus leaves a lasting impact on everyone.
