Alexandria’s own Amy Decker is gearing up for her appearance on Food Network’s new show, “100 Cooks.” She didn’t snag the $250,000 prize, but she told ALXnow, “I got pretty damn far.”
Decker moved to Old Town with her husband and began cooking during the pandemic in 2020. While working as a staff operations officer at the CIA, she turned to cookbooks to hone her skills. That same year, she launched her cooking channel, Decker Delights, sharing how-to videos to help people stuck at home. She also applied to a show hosted by Valerie Bertinelli, but that opportunity didn’t materialize.
When Food Network reached out for “100 Cooks,” Decker was taken by surprise. She spent several weeks in Los Angeles filming, enjoying the beautiful hotel accommodations. “This whole experience reinforced that I’m good at cooking. I really enjoy it,” she shared.
“100 Cooks” premiered at 9 p.m. on June 7, hosted by Terry Crews, with contestants chosen by lottery and dishes judged by Nick DiGiovanni and Alex Guarnaschelli. The excitement was palpable. Food Network president Betsy Ayala noted the incredible talent and passion from thousands of applicants.
Decker describes her time on the show as “really cool,” but also “humbling, surreal, and terrifying.” She discovered her love for performing and feels inspired to host her own cooking show one day.
“It was exciting to see how I shone under pressure,” Decker said. “At the CIA, we had to be buttoned up, but this was different. It was about cooking and personality.” She commented on how important attitude is in competitions, recalling a fellow contestant whose sour mood affected his performance. “We should just appreciate being there and how far we’ve come.”
Looking ahead, Decker is hosting a viewing party at Cooper Mill on June 7. For $25, fans can gather to watch and celebrate her journey.
