From Tennis Star to Taste Tester: Madison Keys Joins ‘Beat Bobby Flay’ as Guest Judge!

Madison Keys, the talented tennis player and Australian Open champion, has taken on an exciting new role as a food critic. On September 25, she’ll appear as a guest judge on the Food Network’s popular show, Beat Bobby Flay.

Keys shared this news on her podcast, Player’s Box Podcast, which she co-hosts with other American tennis stars like Jessica Pegula and Jennifer Brady. Although she’s usually on the court, she emphasized that judging is different from cooking. She’ll be joining celebrity chef Michael Symon for the episode.

During filming, Keys admitted she felt a bit out of her element. “I was sampling dishes from professional chefs, and I thought, ‘It’s lacking acidity,’” she laughed, recalling her surprise when Symon agreed with her assessment. “I felt validated!”

Behind the scenes, she noted the process involves creating multiple plates—one for TV, others for the judges, plus sometimes an extra depending on the round. Keys would sample the food backstage before providing her feedback on camera.

This appearance has been two years in the making. Following a tough loss to Aryna Sabalenka at the 2023 US Open, where she lost in a nail-biting 7-6 match, Keys found herself scrolling through her DMs. While many messages were discouraging, one stood out—it was from Bobby Flay himself. Impressed by her performance, he invited her to be on his show. “I was shocked,” she said. “I watch Food Network all the time!”

In recent years, celebrity chefs have increasingly blurred the lines between sports and cooking. According to a recent survey, 67% of fans find celebrity chef appearances in sports entertaining, illustrating a growing trend where food and athleticism intersect. This crossover allows athletes like Keys to explore new interests while reaching different audiences.

For those curious about Madison Keys’ culinary journey, tune into the episode on Beat Bobby Flay for a unique blend of sports and gastronomy.
