When AJ Wolfe tells people she’s a travel writer, they often raise an eyebrow. After all, how many can say they’re experts on Disney theme parks? “Unless you’ve been to Disney World and felt the love for it, you might not get it,” she says. Even her mother-in-law isn’t fully convinced it’s a real job.
AJ’s passion for Disney started young. Her parents took her to Disney World frequently, and those visits were magical. Even during her college years in the ’90s, she kept the tradition alive, often going with friends or solo.
In the early 2000s, AJ and her husband turned their love for Disney into websites as a hobby. One of them, Disney Food Blog, took off. Back then, Disney World didn’t share restaurant menus, leaving visitors in the dark about what they were paying for. AJ saw a gap and jumped right in.
Her strategy? Regular trips to Disney World—sometimes visiting once or twice a month. She would sample food at multiple restaurants in a single day, snapping pictures of everything she tried, much like a collector. “It felt like Pokémon; I just wanted to capture every dish,” she remembers.
This was 2009, before Instagram and the explosion of food influencers. AJ carried a large camera, drawing curious glances from passersby. Some servers even questioned her, asking if she really wanted so much food. “Yes, I do,” she’d reply, eager to share her experiences with fellow Disney fans.
Her days in the parks were long—often from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. To stay awake while editing photos and writing blog posts, she’d sometimes head to a bar with dueling pianos. The blend of excitement and creativity fueled her passion.
Today, AJ is part of a growing trend: people turning hobbies into successful careers. According to a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in the online media sector have been steadily increasing, driven by people like AJ who have found niches that didn’t exist a decade ago.
Moreover, the rise of social media has transformed how we share experiences. A 2023 survey indicated that 72% of millennials and Gen Z rely on social media influencers for travel recommendations. AJ is a pioneer in this space, showing how passion can lead to unexpected career paths.
By carving out her niche, AJ Wolfe has not only built a career but also created a community of Disney lovers hungry for insider tips and personal stories. In this ever-evolving digital age, there’s a lesson to be learned: if you love what you do, it might just lead to something incredible.
