Dehradun: Ronit Karki, a talented tennis player with roots in Uttarakhand, received recognition from the Indian embassy in New York during India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations. His honors come after a remarkable journey in the sport, highlighted by his impressive run to the finals of the 2025 Wimbledon Boys’ Singles, where he finished as the runner-up.
Ronit’s father, Trilok Karki, received the award from the Indian consul general in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan. The Karki family currently resides in New Jersey but hails from Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Ronit represents the United States in tennis.
The Indian Embassy’s certificate highlighted Ronit’s dedication to tennis and how he inspires young athletes globally. His uncle, Bharat Karki, from Mumbai, expressed his pride in Ronit’s achievements and shared a touching moment when Ronit invited his grandmother, who lives in the U.S., to watch him at the USTA U18 Nationals after his win.
In January 2025, Ronit won the ITF Junior J300 doubles title alongside Jack Satterfield. He also reached the second round of the Roland Garros Junior Championships in June 2025. Previously, he clinched the Gold Ball at the 2023 USTA Winter Nationals and the 2024 Easter Bowl Boys’ 18 doubles title.
Ronit graduated from Stanford University, achieving a career-high ranking of 49 in April 2025. His peak ITF junior ranking is 18, reflecting his potential in the sport. He has claimed several national titles in various age categories and is currently enrolled at Harvard University, balancing academics and athletics.
The Karki family, originally from Jabuka village in Pithoragarh, is proud of Ronit’s accomplishments. With both parents being engineers, the family values education and supports Ronit, who has also inspired his older sister, Naomi, to pursue tennis.
