Four Florida State volleyball players were recognized on the All-ACC Academic Team this week: Delaney Ewing, Kyleene Filimaua, Nenu Kpea, and Johanna Sova.
To qualify for this honor, players must have completed at least a full academic year at the university and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. They also need to have participated in at least half of the team’s games.
Delaney Ewing had a standout season, achieving a 3.60 GPA while playing in every match. She recorded 143 kills and led the team with 121 blocks, showcasing her talent both academically and athletically.
Kyleene Filimaua was also impressive, leading the team with 443 kills—a mark that places her eighth in FSU history. Filimaua received Second Team All-ACC honors and an Honorable Mention from the AVCA Southeast Region. Her academic performance is commendable as well, with a GPA of 3.26.
Nenu Kpea made a notable entrance in her freshman year, playing all 117 sets and contributing 195 kills and 117 blocks. She is just the fourth FSU freshman in the last decade to surpass 100 blocks. Kpea finished her first season with an impressive 3.60 GPA.
Johanna Sova appeared in 21 matches, contributing 28 kills and 44 blocks for the team. She finished the season strong with a GPA of 3.70.
These achievements highlight the balance of academics and sports, a growing trend in college athletics. According to the NCAA, more student-athletes are focusing on their studies while excelling in their sports. The commitment shown by these players sets a positive example for their peers.
