Samsung has just released the Galaxy Z TriFold, sparking curiosity about its durability. A recent livestream from the YouTube channel “OMG_electronics” took on the challenge by testing the device’s hinges through repeated folding.

Samsung claims the TriFold can withstand 200,000 folds, which is meant to represent five years of typical use. However, this falls short compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s impressive 500,000 folds. While some may argue that expecting first-generation technology to match a more evolved product is unrealistic, the test aimed to provide real-world insights.

Over the course of eight days, the hosts folded and unfolded the TriFold until it showed signs of wear. Around 61,000 folds in, the hinges began to creak, and by 144,000 folds, the device started to struggle to stay opened. Although the display remained functional, the device’s usability was compromised, raising questions about long-term reliability.

Interestingly, despite the early struggles, experts say the results are not all that alarming. “First-generation products often have some kinks to work out, and this performance underscores the need for refinement in future iterations,” noted tech analyst Emily Chen.
