GameStop Probes Customer Reports of Damaged Nintendo Switch 2 Screens: What You Need to Know

Video game retailer GameStop is looking into complaints from customers who say they received damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Reports surfaced on social media platforms like X and Reddit, where several users claimed a GameStop location in New York stapled receipts to their console boxes, potentially damaging the screens.

One user, Oadhan Lynch, shared his frustrations, posting images of his damaged console. He noted that he and his friends were at the midnight release, questioning if others faced the same issue. "GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends’ Switch 2s," he tweeted.

GameStop responded, saying they are addressing the problem and will make things right for affected customers. By Thursday afternoon, Lynch updated followers that the store had managed to find replacements for everyone impacted.

The issues appear to be limited to a small area, occurring just as gamers were eager to get their hands on the new Nintendo console, which launched on the same day. The starting price is $449.99, and many fans lined up across the country, excited for the long-awaited release.

Interestingly, the original Switch came out eight years ago, during which hype for a new version steadily grew. However, even on launch day, some customers faced delivery problems with their Walmart and Target orders being either canceled or delayed.

Nintendo’s President, Doug Bowser, reassured fans that the company is working closely with retailers to keep supplies steady as the holiday period approaches. Recent estimates suggest that Nintendo anticipates selling about 15 million units of the Switch 2 in the coming fiscal year, indicating strong demand.

As with any hot release, social media buzz surrounding the Switch 2 is rampant. Customers are excited about new features like a sharper screen and improved Joy-Con controllers. Overall, while some faced initial setbacks, the anticipation for this console continues to grow, reflecting the strong bond between gamers and their favorite devices.
