As Ganesh Chaturthi approaches in 2025, Indian Railways is stepping up to meet the high demand for travel. They’re doubling the capacity of the Mumbai CSMT-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express from 8 to 16 coaches. The Central Railway shared, “To ease passenger travel during the festival, we’ve upgraded Train No. 22229/22230 to 16 coaches.” This temporary adjustment will be in effect on specific dates: August 25, 27, and 29 for the Mumbai to Madgaon route, and August 26, 28, and 30 for the return trip.

The Vande Bharat Express covers the 765 km distance between Mumbai and Madgaon in about 10 hours and 35 minutes. It is notable for being the fastest train on this route. Passengers can expect stops at popular stations including Dadar, Thane, and Ratnagiri, among others.

Ticket prices vary depending on seating. For an AC Chair Car, the fare is ₹1,835, while an Executive Chair Car ticket will cost ₹3,375. This pricing reflects a growing trend in rail travel, where comfort and speed are prioritized.

In recent years, train travel has surged in popularity. According to a recent survey, about 70% of holiday travelers in India prefer trains over buses or cars during festival seasons, highlighting the public’s reliance on this mode of transportation for its convenience.

As for the timings, the train departs Mumbai at 5:25 AM and arrives in Madgaon by 4:00 PM. On the way back, it leaves Madgaon at 12:20 PM and reaches Mumbai at 10:30 PM. This timetable is designed to optimize travel plans for festive travelers.
