Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox Declares: ‘My Journey Has Just Begun!’

TORONTO — Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet isn’t resting on his laurels after a solid performance in his final regular season game. After an impressive eight scoreless innings against the Blue Jays, Crochet made it clear he’s focused on the playoffs. “I don’t intend on that being my last one,” he said confidently.

In the game, Crochet helped secure a 7-1 victory, and with this win, the Red Sox are closer to clinching a postseason spot. They need just two more wins or a combination of their wins and Astros losses to secure their playoff berth.

Crochet’s performance sets him up to pitch in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card series next Tuesday. “He did his job, and now the rest of us have to finish it,” remarked manager Alex Cora, expressing optimism about Crochet’s readiness for the playoffs.

On the mound, Crochet was dominant. He allowed just three hits and struck out six, reaching the milestone of 200 innings—an accomplishment not seen from a Red Sox pitcher since Eduardo Rodriguez in 2019. He also leads the majors in innings pitched this season, with 205 ⅓ innings, surpassing Giants pitcher Logan Webb.

“I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to get there, but I tried to be consistent and trust my teammates,” Crochet reflected. His solid defense and an early lead helped him reach this milestone confidently.

The Red Sox scored quickly, with three runs in the first inning off future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer, allowing Crochet to pitch with a cushion. He ended the regular season impressively, boasting an 18-5 record, a 2.59 ERA, and an MLB-leading 255 strikeouts in 32 starts.

When asked what he was proud of this season, Crochet’s eyes were set on the future. “No, it’s the next one,” he said. “There will be time to be happy in the offseason, but we intend to be playing for a while longer.”

Crochet’s fastball and cutter performed better than in his previous game, with a top speed of 99.1 mph. The adjustments he made in his pitching routine proved fruitful. “Just being a little bit more aggressive,” he explained.

As the playoffs approach, excitement builds within the team and among fans. The Red Sox have a strong chance to make a deep run this postseason, led by players like Crochet, who are determined not to be satisfied just yet.
