Geeta Phogat is optimistic about the future of Indian wrestling. After the fantastic results at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships, she believes the wrestlers will bring home even more medals at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
At a recent event in New Delhi, Geeta highlighted the gold medals won by Sujeet Kalkal and Abhimanyou Mandwal. She praised the entire team for their achievements, noting that India secured 17 medals in total, including two golds, at the championships.
Geeta also emphasized the importance of initiatives like the Fit India Movement and Khelo India. These programs are designed to raise fitness awareness across the country, especially among women. She pointed out that events like “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” are encouraging more people to get active.
Professional boxer Saweety Boora echoed Geeta’s sentiments. She remarked on the rising number of women participating in fitness events, attributing this change to evolving societal attitudes and the influence of social media. “It’s amazing to see how women are stepping out to focus on their health,” Saweety said. She also mentioned her own goal of winning an Olympic gold medal, emphasizing that this achievement is still on her list.
Mayank Srivastav from the Sports Authority of India shed light on the success of the Fit India Movement. Launched in 2019, it encourages mass participation in fitness activities across the country. The “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” initiative has seen an impressive turnout, with over 28 lakh participants since its inception.
The impact of social media can’t be overstated. It’s a powerful tool that encourages discussions around health and fitness. Many women are now sharing their fitness journeys online, inspiring others to join in.
In a world increasingly aware of the importance of health, initiatives like these serve as vital steps toward a fitter future for everyone.
