Gemini Intelligence: What High Android Specs Mean for Pixel 9 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 Compatibility

This week, Google introduced Gemini Intelligence, a new set of AI features for high-end Android devices. However, not all smartphones will be able to use it. In fact, devices like the Pixel 9 series and last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 won’t meet the requirements due to one key specification.

So, what is Gemini Intelligence? It’s Google’s branding for its most advanced AI capabilities, tailored for premium Android devices. This includes smarter autofill options, an upgraded voice-to-text feature in Gboard called “Rambler,” and a tool named “Create my Widget.”

But there’s a catch. To use Gemini Intelligence, devices need to have specific, high-level specifications. This includes a flagship chip, at least 12GB of RAM, and support for a feature called AI Core and Gemini Nano v3. Additionally, phones must receive at least five major Android updates and six years of security updates to qualify.

The need for the Nano v3 element is crucial. Currently, only a handful of devices from 2026 meet this requirement. It’s noted that even devices as recent as the Pixel 9 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are still running on Nano v2, meaning they will miss out on the new capabilities.

Here’s a quick look at which devices can support Gemini Intelligence:

  • Google: Pixel 10 and its variants
  • Samsung: Galaxy S26 series
  • OnePlus: OnePlus 15 series
  • OPPO: Find X9 series
  • Honor: Honor Magic 8 Pro

Devices that only support Nano v2 will include the Pixel 9 series and several other popular models from various brands. Given the pace of tech development, many users are taking to social media to voice their concerns. Some are worried about being left behind as newer features may not be accessible with their current devices.

In a broader context, the rapid advancement of smartphone technology makes it a challenge for users to keep up. According to a recent report by IDC, the global smartphone market is projected to grow by only 2.8% this year, showing how important it is for brands to differentiate through new features like Gemini Intelligence.

Gemini Intelligence is set to launch on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices later this year, with expectations that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be the first to showcase these new features. This push might set a new standard in the smartphone market, raising questions about how brands will adapt to users’ demands for more advanced technology.
