Greg Whitehead, an alumnus of the University of Mississippi, has taken a significant step to support Ole Miss athletics. He recently raised his planned gift from $100,000 to around $1 million. Whitehead believes this investment will help ensure a promising future for the university’s sports programs.

“Since Keith Carter became athletic director, every Ole Miss team has improved,” Whitehead said. “I want to contribute to this success as part of my legacy.”

His estate gift will provide scholarships for Ole Miss student-athletes. As a former athlete himself, who played baseball at Itawamba Community College before transferring to Ole Miss, Whitehead understands the importance of financial support.

Whitehead’s connection to Ole Miss runs deep. “The campus has a certain magic,” he shared. “Even when I was looking at other schools, Ole Miss stood out as the best choice for me.”

As president of the Tampa Bay Ole Miss Club, Whitehead has helped transform the organization. “We’ve seen lots of growth and enthusiasm here,” he said. The club meets at a popular venue owned by a fellow Ole Miss alumnus, where they host watch parties and celebrate the spirit of Ole Miss together.

The excitement around Ole Miss sports also plays a role in attracting new students to the university. “My time at Ole Miss taught me invaluable lessons,” Whitehead reflected. “The social skills and experiences I gained prepared me for success in many areas of my life.”

By donating to Forever Ole Miss, Whitehead earned a spot in the 1848 Society, which honors supporters who commit to planned and deferred gifts. His contribution is seen as a shining example, showcasing how planned giving can support future generations of student-athletes.

Chancellor Glenn Boyce and Keith Carter’s leadership has reignited hope among fans. “After years without championships, the recent victories feel even more rewarding,” Whitehead said. “I always believed Ole Miss would rise again, and it’s happening now.”

Whitehead, who runs a sales and marketing company in Tampa, hopes others will follow his lead. Carter echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the role of planned gifts in sustaining Ole Miss athletics. He acknowledged that such gifts could tremendously benefit future student-athletes.
