Geno Smith Breaks His Silence: First Reaction to Shocking Trade to Raiders

Geno Smith is thrilled to join the Raiders. The Pro Bowl quarterback recently made a move from the Seahawks to the Raiders, marking a fresh start in his career.

This trade was completed on Friday. The Raiders sent a third-round pick, No. 92 in the 2025 NFL Draft, to Seattle in exchange for Smith.

Smith took to social media to share his excitement, saying, “God is the GREATEST!! Excited to get to work and WIN. The time is NOW.”

Geno Smith threw for 4,320 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while completing 70.4 percent of his passes last season.

The NFL reporter Jordan Schultz shared that Smith and the Raiders are already working on a long-term contract extension.

Smith, who turns 35 in October, has played as a starter for Seattle for the last three seasons. Before that, he spent six years on the team, primarily as a backup to Russell Wilson.

In 2022, he won the starting job over Drew Lock, who had been traded to Seattle as part of the deal that sent Wilson to the Broncos. That season, Smith truly shone, posting 30 passing touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. He also achieved 4,282 passing yards, finishing with a remarkable 69.8% completion rate, the best in the league.

This trade reflects the Raiders’ need for an experienced quarterback, especially with Pete Carroll back in the mix. Last season, the Raiders struggled, finishing with a 4-13 record, leading to significant changes within the organization.

The Raiders have faced challenges over the years, with only two winning seasons since their last Super Bowl appearance in 2002 and just two playoff trips since then. This new chapter with Smith may bring the fresh energy and leadership the team needs to improve.
