Men’s Volleyball at Charleston

The George Mason Men’s Volleyball team is gearing up for a busy road trip. They’ll face off against the University of Charleston for their first matches in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) this season.
Last Week’s Highlights
The Patriots are on a roll, having recently achieved two solid wins against Manhattan, both by a score of 3-1. Aidan Weltin stood out during these matches, scoring a career-high of 21 kills in the first game. Robert Evangelista also played well, contributing 16 kills in that match.
The following day, George Mason maintained their momentum. Georgi Zahariev showcased his skills with 34 assists. The defense made a strong statement too, with 12 blocks compared to Manhattan’s six. Because of their strong performance, Weltin earned the title of EIVA Offensive Player of the Week. He currently leads the EIVA with impressive stats: 4.32 kills per set and 4.89 points per set.
Scouting Charleston
The Golden Eagles have had a mixed season so far, holding a 5-5 record. After a weekend that included a close loss to Mount Olive and a comeback win against Catawba, Charleston is eager to improve their standings. Lucas Torres is a key player for them, leading the team with 94 kills, while newcomer Conrad Spidsø is not far behind with 82 kills.
On the defensive side, middle blockers Braxton Francis and Pavlin Ivanov are making big contributions with over 20 blocks each. Their setter, Yotam Briger, is essential for the team, with a total of 307 assists so far.
Rivalry History
Historically, George Mason has had the upper hand, leading the all-time series 23-2 against Charleston. The last meeting saw the Patriots triumph in straight sets during the EIVA Tournament quarterfinals. It’s worth noting that the last time George Mason lost to Charleston was almost a year ago, which adds an extra layer of excitement for their upcoming match.
