George Mason Softball Dazzles in Home Opening Weekend
George Mason Softball kicked off their home season with a bang, winning both games over the weekend. They started off strong against Hofstra, claiming a solid 6-0 victory, and followed it up with an 8-0 shutout against FDU.
In the opener against Hofstra, the Patriots quickly established control. Maddy Lemasters made her mark by walking and later scoring, followed by Tess Altevers Harris who drove her home with a double. Kamryn Inman also contributed, hitting a single that drove in another run. By the end of the first inning, they led 3-0.
The Patriots didn’t let up, adding three more runs in the second inning. Madeline Staats walked and stole second, scoring on a passed ball. A fielding error allowed another run to score, and Logan Pickford’s single capped the inning. George Mason’s defense clinched the shutout, with Abbey Lane striking out six batters and allowing just four hits over seven innings.
The next game against FDU showcased an explosive third inning, where the Patriots scored seven runs. Highlighting this inning was Tess Altevers Harris’s three-run homer, her second of the season. Alyssa Rangel pitched a stellar game, allowing only three hits and earning her first career win.
