Georgetown University’s tennis teams had a successful weekend, achieving their first wins of the spring season against Howard. The men’s team triumphed 6-1 at Yates Field House, improving their record to 1-2. Meanwhile, the women secured a close 4-3 victory at Woodmont Country Club, bringing them to 1-1.
In doubles, the men were on fire, winning all three matches. The pairs of Arthur O’Sullivan and Burke Pablo, Joshua Lamm-Bocharov and James O’Sullivan, and Cyrus Zia and Hank Williams swept their opponents. Standout performances came from Zia and Lamm-Bocharov, who both finished the day undefeated.
On the women’s side, Paige Gilbert and Julia Chu led the charge, winning all their matches. Gilbert clinched the team’s victory by defeating Lauren Oliver 6-3, 6-4 in the decisive match. Chu also excelled, winning her doubles match with Emily Novikov before taking down Howard’s Franchesca Brown in straight sets.
Coach Freddy Mesmer expressed pride in his teams. “It’s fantastic to end the weekend with wins. Howard always brings their best, but our players stayed tough. We look forward to our next match, especially the challenges ahead in Chicago.”
